Proposal

General topic: My website will provide students with easy, affordable, recipes to diversify their diets.

Audience

My site targets young adults, specifically busy college students. College students are likely to be between the ages of 18-22, and therefore in the Gen-Z era. They encompass a range of social and ethnic backgrounds and include all genders - men, women, nonbinary folk, etc. They are typically very involved, balancing multiple classes, extracurriculars, and interests at once. With limited time and resources to spend on their daily meals, they may often need help finding ways to freshen and expand their diets. College students may assume they need to limit their diets to what they can afford, but this site shows many ways to try a variety of meals on a budget.

Purpose

This site will inspire students by sourcing affordable recipes and ingredients to motivate them to diversify their diets, hopefully leading to a healthier lifestyle. I want to emphasize the importance of fueling one’s body with a variety of foods in order to have energy for their daily studies and activities. I aim to have an inspiring and uplifting attitude in order to express that trying new things and expanding their palettes is not only beneficial, but incredibly necessary to live healthy and active lives. Also, I’d like to emphasize that trying something new, like cooking or tasting a delicious new meal, is enjoyable and exciting as well!

Text

I will include detailed explanations of easy-to-follow recipes as well as helpful photos and links for support. I will research useful sites and compact them in the site, making it easily accessible to the average, busy college student. Some current websites in mind include a Trader Joe’s recipe list, Tasty.co, and more. I also aim to interview some UCSB students to get their perspective on their own struggles with cooking in college and include quotes on the site to highlight the need for more diverse meals.

Setting

Ideally, my cite would begin circulating around the UCSB campus and extended Isla Vista area, where most college students reside. The time would revolve around the typical school year (Fall-Spring), but also throughout the summer, as many students stay to take classes or work. By spreading around the Isla Vista college community, students can use this site as inspiration before they go grocery shopping and make a meal.
